NVA Weapons
AK-47
Compared to the American M16, the AK-47 has a slower fire rate and is less accurate,
but it has a longer range. Its magazine holds 30 rounds. Introduced by the Soviets
in 1949, the AK-47 has an effective range of 350 meters and a maximum range of
800 meters.
AKMS
The AKMS is even less accurate than the AK-47 due to its folding stock. Otherwise,
it is essentially the same weapon as the AK-47.
Chicom SKS 56
This semi-automatic carbine assault rifle from China has a ten-round magazine
and is simple to operate. This weapon was more popular during the early years
of the war before the more compact AK-47 became widely available.
M-91/30 Sniper Rifle
The M-91/30 is the oldest and least accurate of the pure sniper rifles among the
various armies. A bolt-action weapon with a five-bullet magazine, the Soviets
used this rifle from 1932 until they replaced it with the superior SVD sniper
rifle in 1963.
MAT-49 Mod
A powerful submachine gun with a substantial 32-round magazine, the MAT-49 Mod
is somewhat cumbersome and inaccurate. Originally designed and manufactured in
France as a 9x19mm model, the NVA produces their own version locally chambered
for 7.62mm rounds.
NVA Mine
Landmines are basically explosive devices that are designed to explode when triggered
by pressure or a tripwire. The purpose of mines when used by armed forces is to
disable any person or vehicle that comes into contact with it by an explosion
or fragments released at high speeds.
Mortar
The Type 63 mortar used by the NVA has a 610mm barrel that can hurl its 60mm projectile
up to 1,530 meters. An experienced mortar gunner can get off up to 20 rounds per
minute.
RPD
Like the M60, the RPD has a 100-round belt, but it fires fewer rounds per minute
than its US counterpart. What it lacks in quantity, however, it makes up for in
accuracy. This 7.62mm light machine gun uses the same M43 ammo load as the AK-47
and is the standard infantry support weapon for the NVA.
RPG-2
This rocket-propelled grenade launcher is smaller and less powerful than the RPG-7V,
but it can still get you out of some tight situations. It fires a PG-2 high explosive
rocket with an effective range of 100 meters.
RPG-7V
Take out enemy personnel or vehicles with the rocket-propelled grenade launcher.
The RPG-7V is a more modern weapon than the RPG-2 and is in wide use in the NVA.
Like the M72, the RPG-7V can penetrate a foot of armor.
SA-7
Fire heat-seeking missiles at enemy planes and vehicles with this auto-reloading
launcher. The SA-7 was first developed by the Soviet army in 1967. The missiles
are 30 pounds each and can hit targets more than two miles away.
TT33
The Tokarev TT33 is a sleek semiautomatic, single action handgun with an eight-round
clip. The "33" in the name of the pistol refers to the year it was developed,
but it has stood the test of time and remains a common weapon particularly among
NVA officers.
Type 53
The Type 53 is the WWII-era Communist Chinese version of a Russian-made carbine
light machine gun. It holds 47 7.62mm rounds in its circular magazine.
SVD Sniper Rifle
This Soviet-made lightweight semi-automatic sniper rifle does not quite match
the M21 for accuracy, but it gets the job done. It has a ten-round magazine and
performs well in all conditions. The Soviets built this rifle to replace the M-91/30.
Booby Trap
Snip the wire for this dynamite laced booby trap. This method is effective for
rigging vehicles to explode upon entry.
Machete
This massive blade is used for close combat silent kills. The long and shape blade
makes this very effective and deadly.
Plantation Sickle
Mainly used for harvesting rice or chopping out a path of thick under growth.
In combat this can a lethal weapon for some instant kills.
NVA Ex. Pack
This package contains five sticks of dynamite with radio detonator. Utilizing
this massive amount of power can be overly effective against anything on the battlefield.
NVA Wrench
The Pipe Wrench, also known as the Stillson pipe wrench can be used to fix everything
that needs a quick repair job.
NVA Punji Sticks
Punji sticks pits were called the poor mans land mine and for a reason. They were
easily made by the more then ample wood surround the region. They can be set up
anywhere and causes instant death to anyone that encounters them.
NVA Shovel
The handy shovel was an important tool for the NVA during the war. It was used
to create the massive tunnel system used by their forces.
Caltrops
The caltrops are a device made up of four sharp and pointy spikes carved from
metal. They are used to slow down transport vehicles and infantry as they travel.
NVA Time Bomb
This time bomb consists of five dynamite sticks set with a ten second timer. Just
be sure to not stand around while it counts down.
Bouncing Betty
Trigger a Bouncing Betty and you`ve got nowhere to hide. The mine springs up to
roughly torso level and then detonates, usually killing the target immediately.
Grenade
The Grenade is a very basic weapon, a safety pin is removed from the top of the
grenade allowing a fly-off handle to be released.
Double-barreled Flare Gun
This modified VC flare gun holds two 26mm rounds. This is a Japanese model that
dates from WWII. Although it was designed as a signaling gun, it can still be
an effective weapon when used against an enemy.
