If you're needed a copy of the Q2 Chaos mod (autodownloading can take awhile for the whole thing) then there'a a few places you can get it. Planet Quake has a base and patch (and maps) for Chaos. You can also download the latest base (1.11 and the 1.12 patch) from Chaotic Dreams site. Map files are a separate download.

Here it was nice but my wife didn't feel good so we couldn't do much anyway. Also, now that Castle is done for the season we don't know what we'll do on Monday nights! You can download the update by going in to the KOT e-shoppe site and logging in or by preordering the alpha then getting the latest version.
Tomes of Mephistopheles is an indie commercial game built on the Quake Darkplaces engine. The second game done by the developer (the first was Steel Storm: Burning Retribution), this game is an action dungeon crawler, similar to Diablo but fro ma first person perspective.
EntityPlus, the Quake 3 Arena single player mod, has been updated! It's a tiny update that mostly fixes this but it's an update none the less. Download it straight from the google code site.
EntityPlus is a Quake 3 Arena mod that brings you single player capabilities. You're able to do cut scenes, usable doors, all the things you'd want In a single player map. It's still a work in progress but there's already two maps for the mod. You can check them out to see what this mod is capable of.
PeeWee had the creator of the Quake 2 mod WOD-X write up it's history for Planet Quake. The guy behind it is a big Quake 2 multiplayer fan, especially a fan of the original mod Weapons of Destruction (he made the eXtream version of the mod). Good Morning Planet Quake! 5/11/2012[ Comment ] 4:30 PST | TheHappyFriar | Print News | Category: Community NewsThe last thing I really really like about SS3 is it's ability to scale graphically. At first I let it autoconfigure my system but I still had stutters. That drove me nuts. I eventually went in to tweak my graphics settings and found, like Doom 3, you can tweak quite a bit of stuff. I ended up setting my resolution down a decent amount but upping the AA and it looked great. It reminds me how with Doom 3 you could run it at 800x600 with AA and, it would run better then 1024x768 and look just as good and play smoother.

I slept in, that's why I'm about an hour and a half late. Yesterday because I felt horrible I didn't say another reason why I like Serious Sam 3, so here's another: the “invisible walls”. In most games you either have an invisible wall or lots of debris (or fence or something) to stop you from going beyond a certain point. Serious Sam 3 has the debris with some invisible walls (why can I climb pile here but not there? Invisible walls!) but in the deserts it has the coooooolest thing: A giant sand monster that comes out of the ground and eats you! It just doesn't eat you either, it eats anything that comes along it's path! The bad part is you can't run infinitely in a direction in the desert but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Good Morning Planet Quake! 5/8/2012[ Comment ] 4:23 PST | TheHappyFriar | Print News | Category: Community NewsIn case you didn't know, I got Serious Sam 3 last week and I listed things I didn't like about it. This week I'm listing things I do like about it. One thing I really like about it is the HUGE battles. There's one part I found pretty bad in terms of a battle & level design, but for the most part it's awesome. I started on Hard and ended up replaying on Normal (not because I wanted to) and I can tell a difference, but man, do they throw everything at you some times. It's quite enjoyable and stressful at the same time!
All right, yesterday's movie quote was from Police Story. A very cool Jackie Chan movie, one that get me really interested in his older movies. The only person who got the answer correct was Draggor. Ok, now on to today's quote!

You can hide behind something & it can get blown up, whittles down by bullets, etc. It's awesome! You can be standing behind a wall and have it start crumbling around you! Sadly, building themselves aren't destructible, but pretty much everything else it. It's very very very cool.

Good Morning Planet Quake! 5/5/2012[ Comment ] 6:58 PST | TheHappyFriar | Print News | Category: Community NewsOk, last thing I don't like about SS3. The reloading of the machinegun. You didn't reload the tommy gun. Reloading an AR/machinegun (whichever it is) is way to CoD-ish to me (not knocking CoD, I like the CoD games). Sam isn't meant to reload the machinegun, it's meant to fore less rounds per minute then the minigun and kill lots and lots of stuff. While I like the phrase “NO COVER. ALL MAN”, having the machinegun reload normally forces you to get under some kind of cover, not because you're being overwhelmed but because you can't do anything for about three second. So that's the last thing I don't like about SS3. Monday I'll start on what I do like and let me assume you, what I don't like dwarfed by what I DO like, so I still say the game is defiantly worth it (I'm “The Happy Friar” if you're ever wanting to play a Steam game of SS3, DNF or Steel Storm).

Good Morning Planet Quake! 5/4/2012[ Comment ] 4:19 PST | TheHappyFriar | Print News | Category: Community NewsAnother thing I don't like about Serious Sam 3 (and I just found this out yesterday, it's really make me mad): a limited number of saves. I was so far then I let my son play a new game. I figured “No big deal, it will overwrite my autosaves at worst but I did make a quicksave” (previous Sam games didn't overwrite any saves). Well, it overwrites everything except a normal, 100% manual save, so all my progress is lost! Yes, I can load up a previous/current map & start from there (it lets you start from any previous map you completed) but I lost my score progress and I lost any secret weapons I picked up and, because of my complaint yesterday, it's now pretty hard when I don't have a cannon ball to take out some of those really tough instant hit guys! ARGH!!!!!

Tonight and tomorrow are two scheduled games at 9pm EST (6 PST) for all you saw blade loving decapitators! Or you black hole throwers, fake deathers, etc. If you've never played Chaos for Quake 2 you're in for a treat: The name describes it all, you're given several different deadly weapons with alternate ammos, funky powerups and even a jetpack. It's an original experience and one of the most popular Quake 2 mods out there!

It's the same complaint I had about SS2: instant hit weapon baddies that always hit. In SS2 there were shotgun toting stock broker zombies that, when they fire always hit you. It wasn't very fun that the only time they would miss is if something was between you two or if they fired when you went behind cover. In SS3 there’s a shotgun guy, an assault rifle guy and the scorpions. Once they fire they track you dead on and can hit you ay any distance (minus spread). In SS1 the scorpions had instant hit weapons (and SS2) but they didn't dead on track you so you could escape them. It's an annoyance to get hit by something far enough away you can't see it.
Ok, now movie quote time! The movie was Dragon Heart. We only had two right answers and the first person in was Tex Arcana and the second was Draggor. PeeWee sent in a wrong answer but he did get the theme: Serious Sam was Here. That's right, he's been in Egypt, Central America (Mayan Empire) and medevil times! I grew to love that voice in Serious Sam 2 and it was the highlight of playing that game to me. No Netty talking is disappointing. Yeah, it's a prequel but who cares, it's Sam!
