People's Liberation Army of China About the PLA
People's Liberation Army is the general name given to the military superpower of China, People's Republic of China. PLA was established in 1927 during the Nanchang Uprising and was known as the “red army”. The Red Army was the military blade of the communist party in China. In 1947 the name was changed into the PLA during the decline of the Communist Party of China. PLA is the largest fighting force in the world in terms of number of troops. Basic Forces include Ground Forces (Army Equivalent), Navy (Marines and Naval aviation), Air force, Artillery Corps (Strategic Nuclear and missile forces) and the People's Armed Police (internal security troops).
