Claymore Mines

Claymore Mines

Details

A claymore mine will explode shooting a deadly 45 degrees of shrapnel away from the way you place it. So the way you are facing when you set the mine, is the way shrapnel will fly. These claymores will explode when someone runs in front of it (the back faces you when you place it), so once you place it, don’t run in front of it, or you’ll blow yourself up. One way to use these is to bobby trap the top of ladder that leads to your sniping position, so if someone tries to sneak up on you, they will see the mine when it is too late.

Friendly claymore’s will be marked with a red skull in your 3D map, and an icon will appear on your HUD in the same fashion as an AT mine. Just make sure other friendlies won’t have the notion to join you, or you’ll blow them up. Also if you have a guy chasing you in an alley way, run around a corner, place a claymore around the corner, so the guy chasing you will be blown up as he rounds the corner. Also you can ambush a squad this way, place the claymores so that they aren’t easily seen and will still blow up as people run by. Don’t place claymores in stupid places where a friendly will likley trip over it.

In the 'real world'

The claymore is a C4 based explosive containing 1.5 pounds of C4 and embedded with 700 steel balls. It has a lethal range of 50 meters but will cause casualties up to 100, friendlies should remain at over 250 m away from the front of this device and should remain in a covered postion 100 m from rear and sides. The M18 can be employed with AT mines to prevent dismounted infantry approaching, and snipers can make safe their position by employing these devices in a rear defensive position like at the top of a ladder. 1)
