AT Mine

AT Mine

Details

As engineer you get a number of Anti-tank mines. These mines, when driven over, will explode and destroy the vehicle which passes over it. Use these mines to prevent vehicles from reaching a control point, or if you see an enemy vehicle coming down the road, set up an ambush for him. Place the mines around a corner, on the other side of a hill, somewhere where the driver won’t see the mine until it is too late.

One thing to keep in mind when placing mines is that they do not distinguish from friend or foe. Friendly mines will be marked with a red skull in your 3D map and a skull icon will appear on your HUD, so if you see one while driving a vehicle, slow down and locate the mine and maneuver to avoid it before continuing. If you want to use mines to defend a control point that spawns vehicles that’s fine, but please don’t block friendly vehicles in. Too many times have I seen a CP that spawns a tank for our team and some idiot decided to mine every entrance/exit to the CP so that the tank is trapped. Be prepared to get a team kill if you do this. Be sure you won’t trap vehicles in when laying mines. Also don’t place mines where there will be a high volume of friendly vehicle traffic. Again as a driver, keep an eye on friendly (and enemy) mines so you don’t kill yourself and all occupants in the vehicle.

You can also throw mines on top of a vehicle, and as soon as the vehicle moves the mine will explode, so if you can sneak up on a tank and jump and toss the mine on top of it you can blow him up as soon as he moves. Secondly you could booby trap enemy vehicles that are unoccupied. Just make sure friendly troops won’t be taking these vehicles.

Weapons stats

  • Ammount per kit: 5
  • Blast radius: Only against the vehicle driving over the mine
  • Damage: Fatal for all vehicles
  • Time before explosion: Instant upon impact

In the 'real world'

Anti-tank or AT mines are similar too AP (anti-personal) mines but they require more pressure to detonate, i.e. the weight of a vehicle. AT mines have used shaped charges to cut through armour since world war 2. They achieve either a mobility kill by disabling a tanks tracks e.t.c. or a catastrophic kill that disables vehicle and crew. The fact they have a higher trigger pressure means they are prevented from being set off by infantry. AT mines are very good for preventing enemy vehicles approaching certain areas but they do not discriminate and can be set off by your own sides vehicles as well. 1)
